Marukinmaru Dining Experience

(Farm to Dish Experience)

Farm to Dish Experience with a Local Fisherman in Minami-Ise

Enjoy fish raised in the ocean, right where it comes from, with the people who raised it.
More than just a meal, this is a moment to experience the stories and lifestyle behind the food.

At "Marukinmaru," a guesthouse run by local fisherman Jun Hashimoto,
you will enjoy a dining experience using fresh fish prepared on the day.

Together with Jun, a sea bream farmer, you will learn about the ingredients, the ocean,
and enjoy a simple yet powerful "Farm to Dish" experience.

Jun Hashimoto has traveled extensively around the world, including the United States, Europe, and Africa.
Through these experiences, he came to realize the unique value of the slow-paced, nature-connected life in his hometown, Minami-Ise.

Today, he raises sea bream while also running a guesthouse, sharing the charm of the region with visitors.

The village where this experience takes place was once home to around 2,000 people, but now has about 800 residents,
many of whom are elderly. The community is at a turning point.

Despite this, the bay has long been known for its fishing culture,
and families continue to maintain fish farms and live closely connected to the sea.

The slightly elevated structure of the houses reflects the impact of the Ise Bay Typhoon about 70 years ago.
After severe flooding, protective walls were built and homes were raised,
demonstrating how the community has adapted to live in harmony with nature.
